At anna.aero, the only prizes based on subjective votes are for Cake and Route of the Week. Therefore, last week’s award of the 3rd anna.aero EURO ANNIES – made purely on the basis of scientific measurement of new route and traffic development – continue to be celebrated for the real achievements they are among the winning airports and airlines.
Of the six airport growth categories, Venice Marco Polo won the 5-10 million airport category with 24.9% passenger growth, largely because of the temporary closure of Venice Treviso, which saw the smaller airport’s operations move over to the city’s main airport. However, Venice Marco Polo is already attracting a number of new airlines this year, with both Volotea and Air One setting up bases, meaning that this year’s growth makes it possible that 2011’s exceptional result will not just represent temporary inflation.
“We at the Aviation Development Department are very proud that Venice Airport achieved these results and we take this opportunity to thank anna.aero for your prize,” said Camillo Bozzolo, the airport’s Aviation Development Director.
